Industrial Automation and Building Management System Protocol Suite

FieldServer Technologies provides libraries with development kit for a rapid and cost effective way of adding complex protocols to your NetSilicon's NET+OS® based embedded device.

The NET+Protocol Suite is a linkable library of serial and Ethernet protocol drivers. These are ready for use in third party applications that run on NET+OS® platforms that require seamless communications to other Industrial Automation (IA) and Building Management System (BMS) devices and systems. Using just a few API calls, it is easy to achieve connectivity to devices such as PLCs, fire alarm panels, HVAC controllers, flow meters, VFD (Variable Frequency Drives) and SCADA/HMI packages from vendors such as Wonderware, Siemens, GE, Intellution, Rockwell Automation/Allen Bradley, Modicon, Telemechanique, TAC, Trane, Honeywell and Opto-22.

Technical Overview

Establishing a connection and transferring data is achieved as follows:

The appropriate libraries are selected
The application program then, using the NET+Protocol Suite API

• creates tables of data that needs to be shared (Data Arrays)
• describes the connection to the device or devices (e.g. baud rate, etc.)
• describe the device details (e.g. Node ID, IP address etc.)
• describes what data tables within the device will be read or written
• starts the protocol driver
• reads and writes data points from and to the Data Arrays.

This procedure requires familiarity with the various aspects of the protocol and device itself. The NET+Protocol Suite includes access to an extensive collection of device datasheets and protocol documentation which supplies the relevant information.
